The Sun Finder application offers a practical tool for homeowners, gardeners, photographers, and outdoor enthusiasts seeking to understand sunlight exposure. It provides straightforward answers to questions such as "How long will this deck receive sunlight?" and "Will it be sunny three months from now?"

Recognized by BBC Click on November 22, 2014, Sun Finder enables users to visualize the sun's position anywhere in the world, at any time of year or day. Utilizing augmented reality, the app overlays the sun's location directly onto the camera view, allowing users to assess potential obstructions—such as neighboring structures—that could impact sunlight in a specific area.

The application features two primary modes:
<ul>
<li>Determining the sun's position for a specified date and time</li>
<li>Identifying the optimal time and angle for sunlight in a given direction, useful for planning activities like sunset dinners</li>
</ul>

By rotating the device horizontally, users can instantly switch to an augmented reality view of the sun. The app also facilitates documentation through geotagged photographs.

Sun Finder operates offline once location data is established, requiring only GPS and compass functionality from the device.

Optimal usage occurs outdoors with Wi-Fi and cellular data disabled to minimize interference. Note that protective covers may disrupt compass accuracy. To calibrate the compass, users should move their phone in an 8-shaped motion three times—once in landscape orientation, once in portrait, and once face-up—and avoid magnetic sources that could affect readings.
